A Scottish actor, who became synonymous with Yorkshire for his role as Howard in Last of the Summer Wine (1985-2010), a character he played in 230 episodes of the popular British comedy. In an acting career spanning 50 years, he also appeared in numerous series, including Dr Finlay’s Casebook (1962-1968), the ITV Playhouse (1968), No Strings (1989) and Coronation Street (1966-2012). His film work included Around the World in 80 Days (2004), Burke and Hare (2010), Cloud Atlas (2012) and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016).
