An American director, writer and producer, who is best known for The Stunt Man (1980), which earned him two Oscar nominations and a Golden Globe. Rush got his break directing exploitation cinema, including Hells Angels on Wheels, Thunder Alley (both 1967) and Psych-Out (1968), before moving on to more mainstream fare, such as Getting Straight (1970), Freebie and the Bean (1974) and Air America (1990, as writer).
