An English theoretical physicist who helped pioneer the popularisation of science, Hawking found mainstream success with his book A Brief History of Time. He was the subject of Errol Morris’ 1991 documentary of the same name and made guest appearances on shows including Star Trek: The Next Generation (1993), The Simpsons (1999-2010) and The Big Bang Theory (2012-2017).
