An Italian costume designer who broke into the film industry alongside his friend and fellow art student Franco Zeffirelli on the films of Luchino Visconti, Tosi worked with Visconti on 12 pictures including The Leopard (1963). He won BAFTAs for his work on the films of both his early collaborators with Death in Venice (1971) and La Traviata (1982).
