A British producer and executive who began his career in journalism, McHugh worked at The Sun and Daily Mail before Greg Dyke recruited him to TV-am as News Editor in 1983 where he quickly boosted ratings. History repeated itself in 1993 when Dyke again successfully called upon McHugh to boost the ratings of GMTV.
