Peter Bowles

16 October 1936 to 17 March 2022

A British actor, who most often played debonair gentlemen, both of the philanthropic and caddish type. He had popular roles in such television hits as Rumpole of the Bailey (1978-1992), To the Manor Born (1979-1981), Only When I Laugh (1979-1982), The Irish R.M. (1983-1985) and Perfect Scoundrels (1990-1992). Although he found fame on television in the late 1970s, his screen acting career had actually started back in the 1950s and ultimately saw him notch up more than 130 credits. On the big screen, he appeared in some memorable films, including Blow-Up (1966), The Charge of the Light Brigade (1968), A Day in the Death of Joe Egg (1970) and The Offence (1973).
