A British actor best known for sporting a bowler hat and swinging an umbrella for his defining role as John Steed in The Avengers (1961-1969) and The New Avengers (1976-1977). Outside of the hit show Macnee had memorable roles in The Howling (1981), This Is Spinal Tap (1984) and A View To A Kill (1985).
