Monica Vitti

An Italian actress, who will be forever remembered for her five collaborations with director Michelangelo Antonioni, namely L’avventura (1960), La notte (The Night, 1961), L’eclisse (The Eclipse, 1962), Il deserto rosso (Red Desert, 1964) and The Mystery of Oberwald (1980). Her other notable films include La ragazza con la pistola (The Girl with a Pistol, 1968), Dramma della gelosia (The Pizza Triangle, 1970), Polvere di stelle (1973) and Flirt (1983). She also directed one of her last films herself, Secret Scandal (1990). While L’avventura earned her a BAFTA nomination in 1961, she was far more successful at Italian awards shows, with 11 Italian Golden Globe wins and nine David di Donatello awards, as well as a career Golden Lion at the 1995 Venice Film Festival.
