A Greek composer, who created several memorable film scores including the BAFTA-winning Z (1969). He would be nominated twice more, for State of Siege (État de siège) (1972) and Serpico (1973), the latter also earning him a Grammy nomination. He had been Grammy nominated before this in 1965, as well as Golden Globe nominated, for the unforgettable score to Zorba the Greek (1964), with its ‘Zorba’s Dance’ used in multiple films and television series since. Other notable scores include Ill Met by Moonlight (1957), Electra (1962) and The Trojan Women (1971).
