An American writer best known for writing the screenplay for E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Mathison received BAFTA and Oscar nominations for the film. She also wrote the scripts for The Indian in the Cupboard (1995), Kundun (1997), and Spielberg’s section of Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983) and The BFG (2016).
