An Austrian actor who accrued over 100 screen credits, Schell’s signature role came in Judgment at Nuremberg for which he was BAFTA-nominated and awarded the Best Actor Oscar. He was also Oscar-nominated for roles in The Man in the Glass Booth (1975) and Julia (1977) and also directed the Oscar-nominated documentary Marlene (1984).
