A Japanese games engineer and producer, who helped pioneer the home entertainment console market. He was lead architect on two of Nintendo’s most popular consoles, the Famicom and Super Famicom game systems, known as the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and Super Nintendo (SNES) outside of Japan, which launched in 1983 and 1990 respectively. He also produced several games for each system. Uemura joined Nintendo from Sharp in 1971 and would work at the industry giant until his retirement in 2004. He would go on to teach games studies at Ritsumeikan University.
