Martin Kisner

Lighting director

A British lighting director, who worked for the BBC for almost 40 years. After serving an apprenticeship at EMI Electronics, Martin Kisner joined the Corporation in 1964, working in the camera department before settling on lighting as his chosen career. Promoted to lighting director in 1986, he worked on a huge variety of shows, including Ever Decreasing Circles (1986), Top of the Pops (1988-1992), EastEnders (1988-1991), Big Break (1993), The Real McCoy and Ben Elton: The Man From Auntie (both 1994), as well as on such large studio productions as Children in Need and Comic Relief. He continued working as a freelance lighting director well beyond his retirement in 2001, including on the likes of A Question of Sport (2005) and Never Mind the Buzzcocks (2005-2008). He also served on the committee of The Society of Lighting Directors for six years.
