Lionel Strutt

A British sound director, who amassed an incredible 280 film and television credits over a career spanning more than 50 years. Strutt’s speciality was looping, now known as automated dialogue recoding (ADR), and he worked on several high-profile releases although often his work went uncredited. These include Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Dr. No (1962) and many of the following Bond films, Doctor Zhivago (1965) and the first three Indiana Jones films (1981-1989). He recorded all the foleys for The Shining (1980). Strutt worked at The Gate Recording Studios (1962-1972) and later the Mayflower Preview Theatre, taking management of the latter in 1986. He was one of the founding members of the Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS), where he served as secretary and treasurer for 15 years. He was awarded a Fellowship by the AMPS in 2006.
