A versatile character actor, Jeffries’ best known role is Grandpa Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968). Equally at home in comedies from Two Way Stretch to dramas such as The Trials of Oscar Wilde (both 1960), his later work includes writing and directing perennial favourite The Railway Children (1970).
