Lina Wertmüller

An Italian filmmaker, who made several international hits in the 1970s. These included Seven Beauties (1975), which led to her becoming the first woman to be nominated in the director category at the Academy Awards – the film also earned her a nomination for writing. Other notable works written and directed by Wertmüller included The Seduction of Mimi (1972), Love & Anarchy (1973), Swept Away (1974), Blood Feud (1978), and Crystal or Ash, Fire or Wind, as Long as It’s Love (1989). In 2020, she was presented with an Honorary Oscar.
