Leslie Megahey

Producer, Writer, Director

A British producer, writer and director, born in Belfast, who specialised in arts documentaries and historical dramas. Megahey had long spells working as the producer (as well as episode writer, director and occasional narrator) on the British arts programmes Arena and Omnibus in the 1970s-1980s, the latter earning him a BAFTA in 1981. He was nominated twice more, first for the two-part Arena documentary The Orson Welles Story (1982) and then for the three-episode historical drama Leonardo (2003). Among his writing and directing achievements were Schalcken the Painter (1979), Cariani and the Courtesans (1987, part of the BBC’s Screenplay series) and The Hour of the Pig (1993).
