A British documentary filmmaker, who will perhaps be best remembered for In Need of Special Care (1968), a two-part film looking at disability in the UK, which won BAFTA’s Robert Flaherty Award for best documentary film and was nominated for the now retired United Nations Award. He would be nominated again for Whicker’s World series Living with Uncle Sam (1985). Although he started out at ITV, Stedall spent most of his career at the BBC, from 1963-1989, before turning freelance in 1990. Other credits include Betjeman’s West Country (1962-1963), The Long Search (1977), India – One Man’s Truth (1978), Time with Betjeman (1983), One Pair of Eyes (1984), Great Railway Journeys (1994-1999) and Faces of India (1997).
