A French director and writer, who will be forever remembered for two arthouse heavy hitters made in the 1980s, Diva (1981) and Betty Blue (1986). Both films earned him BAFTA recognition, with nominations in the Foreign Language Film category, while Diva won him a Cesár and Betty Blue (aka 37º2 le matin) was nominated for an Oscar. Beineix’s later films, including IP5 (1992), Mortal Transfer (2001) and several documentaries, did not reach the same level of international acclaim as these two.
