An American actress and singer, who found fame in the heady musicals era of the 1940s and 50s. Her standout performance was as Milly in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), but she also had leading roles in such musicals as Royal Wedding (1951), Small Town Girl (1953) and The Girl Most Likely (1957). By the 1960s, musicals’ appeal was fading and Powell struggled to find work on the big screen. She made a few guest appearances on the likes of Fantasy Island (1978-1982), The Love Boat (1981-1982) and Growing Pains (1988-1990), but predominantly worked on the stage thereafter.
