Jane Birkin OBE

A British actress and singer, who will be forever remembered for her duet with Serge Gainsbourg on the 1969 single ‘Je T’aime… Moi Non Plus’, the first non-English number one in the UK, which was originally not given air time due to its risqué lyrics. Jane Birkin had already appeared in several films – including the likes of Blow Up, Kaleidoscope (both 1966), Wonderwall (1968) and La piscine (1969) –before she met Gainsbourg on the set of Slogan (1969). A fluent French speaker, Birkin worked on both English and French language films, including the likes of The Pleasure Pit (1969), If Don Juan Were a Woman (1973), Death on the Nile (1978), Evil Under the Sun (1982), Love on the Ground, The Pirate (both 1984), Soigne ta droite (Keep Your Right Up, 1987), Kung-Fu Master! (1988), These Foolish Things (1990) and La Belle Noiseuse (The Beautiful Troublemaker, 1991). She also wrote, directed and starred in the film Les boites (Boxes, 2007). She was appointed OBE in 2001.
