A British producer and director who joined the BBC in 1957, Gilbert was the corporation’s Head of Comedy (1973-1977) and then Head of Light Entertainment (1977-1982). He notably originally teamed up The Two Ronnies on The Frost Report (1966-1967) and also produced and directed the first series of Last of the Summer Wine (1973).
