A British actor, who found fame in the 1970s through the popularity of sitcom Love Thy Neighbour (1972-1976). Elsewhere, his television credits included the BBC Sunday Night Play (1960-1962), Wreckers at Dead Eye (1970), For the Love of Ada (1970-1971) and Hilary (1984-1986). More of a small screen performer, Smethurst did land some small film roles, including Carry On Sergeant (1958), Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (1960) and A Kind of Loving (1962).
