An American actress and singer-songwriter, who was a teenage star long before she found worldwide acclaim in Fame (1980). Not only did she star in Alan Parker’s film, she also sang the Oscar-winning and chart-topping title song. Three years later, she was in the charts again with a song she also co-wrote, ‘Flashdance... What a Feeling’, for Flashdance (1983), which would win her an Oscar, a Golden Globe, two Grammys and a BAFTA nomination. Her onscreen roles also included Roots: The Next Generations (1979), Killing ‘em Softly (1982), D.C. Cab (1983), City Heat (1984), Busted Up (1986) and Caged in Paradiso (1989), many in which she also sang.
