Ian Wingrove

Special & Visual Effects Artist

A British special and visual effects artist, who was nominated for a BAFTA for his work on The Dark Crystal (1982) and an Oscar for Return to Oz (1985). Ian Wingrove started out as an electrician on Stingray (1964-1965), before moving into Gerry Anderson’s art department and creating effects for Thunderbirds (1965-1968) and UFO (1970-1971). He went on to forge a successful film career, with such films as The Long Good Friday (1980), Reds (1981), Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, Never Say Never Again (both 1983), Henry V (1988), Hamlet (1989), Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), Mission: Impossible (1996), Troy (2004) and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011).
