Ian Whittaker

Set Decorator, Art Director, Set Dresser

A British set dresser, art director and set decorator, who won an Oscar for his work on Howards End (1992), shared with frequent collaborator, production designer Luciana Arrighi. Whittaker was also nominated for Alien (1979), The Remains of the Day (1993) and Anna and the King (1999), and earned an Emmy nomination for Into the Storm (2009). Other notable works as set decorator included Swallows and Amazons (1974), The Watcher in the Woods (1980), Highlander (1986), Under the Cherry Moon (1986), The Old Man and the Sea (1990) Sense and Sensibility (1995), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1999) and The Importance of Being Earnest (2002). He had 13 collaborations with director Ken Russell, including as set dresser on The Devils (1971) and Tommy (1975).
