Canadian-born Hopper came to England in her teens, and made her West End debut in 1933. A big screen career duly followed, with major roles coming in Lorna Doone (1934), Whom The Gods Love (1936), The Lonely Road (1936), Laburnum Grove (1936) and The Mill on the Floss (1937).
