Herb Jeffries

An American actor, singer and pioneer of African-American Westerns, Jeffries was known as the ‘The Bronze Buckaroo’ after starring in a 1939 film of the same name. After making his screen debut in Harlem on the Prairie (1937), the jazz singer appeared in Westerns targeted at black audiences including Two-Gun Man From Harlem (1938) and Calypso Joe (1957).
