Henry Martin

A British film director, producer and activist, whose films explored and showcased Black British communities and culture. Born in England but raised in Trinidad, Henry Martin returned to the UK in his early 20s and co-founded independent production company Kuumba Black Arts, in the late 1970s. His first short, Grove Carnival, was broadcast by Channel 4, which he followed with the full length Grove Music (1981). He went on to direct Grenada – Is Freedom We Making?, Trinidad and Tobago: Money is not the Problem (both 1983) and Big George is Dead (1987).
