An Austrian actor, who is perhaps best known for his collaborations with director Luchino Visconti, with whom he also had a romantic relationship. Together, they made The Damned (1969), which earned Helmut Berger a Golden Globe nomination, Ludwig (1973) and Conversation Piece (1974). Predominantly starring in European films, Berger did occasionally appear in Hollywood movies, including Ash Wednesday (1973) and The Godfather Part III (1990). Notable roles included The Garden of the Finzi-Continis, Dorian Gray (both 1970), The Romantic Englishwoman (1975), Salon Kitty (1976), Faceless (1988), Ludwig 1881 (1993), Initiation (2009) and Liberty (2019). He also had a short run as a regular character in US soap opera Dynasty (1983-1984) and starred in mini-series Fantômas (1980).
