Gina Lollobrigida

An Italian actress, who was an international film icon during the 1950s and 1960s. Gina Lollobrigida was nominated for a BAFTA for Bread, Love and Dreams (Pane, amore e fantasia, 1953), the film that launched her as one of the leading stars of the era. She had earned favourable reviews before then, with the likes of Pagliacci (1948), Four Ways Out (1951), Fanfan la Tulipe (1952) and Beat the Devil (1953). Notable films that followed included Crossed Swords (1954), The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Trapeze (both 1956), Solomon and Sheba (1959), The Law (La legge, 1959), Come September (1961), Imperial Venus (Venere imperiale, 1962), Woman of Straw (1964), The Dolls (La bambole, 1965) and Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell (1968), among many others.
