Gillo Pontecorvo

Pontecorvo's name is forever linked to his one, unassailable masterpiece, The Battle of Algiers (1966). An account of Algeria's liberation from French rule, it was shot in a neorealist style and exerts an influence which continues to this day. Other films include La Grande Strada Azzura (1957) and Queimada (1969).
