A British broadcaster and sports commentator, whose distinctive voice will be very recognisable to the millions of Brits who heard him cover sport for the BBC and ITV across a career spanning more than 40 years. He will be mostly remembered for his lively commentary of football, first on BBC radio and then for Granada TV and ITV (1969 to 1981), but he also covered the golf for Channel 4 and the Olympics for the BBC. He rejoined the BBC in the 1980s and was a regular commentator on the likes of Match of the Day and Football Focus until his retirement.
