An American director, writer and producer who delivered a horror classic with his debut feature Night of the Living Dead (1968), Romero produced five instalments to his zombie series including the equally revered Dawn of the Dead (1978). Often progressive and countercultural, his work also included The Crazies (1973), Martin (1978) and Monkey Shines (1988).
