An American actor best known for his role as D.A. Arthur Branch on Law & Order (2002-2007), Thompson was also a politician who served as a United States Senator from 1994-2003. Thompson was originally an attorney who worked on the Watergate hearings and became an actor after playing himself in Marie (1985).
