Emi Wada

Costume Designer

A Japanese costume designer, who was twice nominated for a BAFTA and won an Oscar. The latter was for her incredible work on Akira Kurosawa’s Shakespearean epic, Ran (1985), which also earned her one of her BAFTA nods. The other was for her costumes for House of Flying Daggers (2004), her second collaboration with director Zhang Yimou after 2002’s stunning Hero. Other notable work included Dreams (1990), Prospero’s Books (1991), The Bride with White Hair 1 and 2 (1993), The Pillow Book (1996) and Gohatto (1999). Her last film was 2020’s Love After Love.
