Ed Asner

An American actor, who holds the record for the most Emmys by a male performer, with seven wins from 17 Primetime Emmy and four Daytime Emmy nominations. Five of those wins came from playing the same character, Lou Grant, first in The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970-1977) and then spin-off series Lou Grant (1977-1982). The other two were for Rich Man, Poor Man (1976) and Roots (1977). He appeared in numerous films, including JFK (1991); Elf (2003), as Santa; and voiced the lead in Up (2009). Asner also served two terms as president of the Screen Actors Guild (1981-1985).
