A Canadian actor best known for providing one of cinema’s most haunting voice performances, Rain brought HAL 9000 to life in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) after the director noted his narration of a documentary about space. On the stage he was a respected classical actor and founding member of the Stratford Festival in Ontario.
