Learning his trade as a news reporter in his native Scotland, MacCormick became familiar nationally as a presenter of Tonight (1975) and later Newsnight. He also fronted BBC2’s The Money Programme, filed reports from the annual party conferences and for a time was in the hotseat for Question Time (1985).
