A Member Governor at the BFI from 2009-2012, Young began his career in film and television as a PA at Granada Television, and later spent 12 years as a film/videotape editor for ATV. He went on to work as a researcher on many archive-based documentary productions including Heroes of Comedy (1995-1998), The Unforgettable Hattie Jacques (2000), and The Great British Black Invasion (2006).
