A British crime writer best known for creating Inspector Morse, Dexter wrote ten novels and numerous short stories featuring the Oxford-based detective. His characters served as the inspiration for the phenomenally successful Inspector Morse (1987-200), Inspector Lewis (2006-2015) and Endeavour (2012-2017), with Dexter regularly making uncredited cameos on the shows.
