A British executive and journalist who joined the BBC TV Newsroom in the 1970s, Cramer was already a respected news editor and field producer when he and his team were held during the Iranian Embassy Hostage Crisis of 1980. He subsequently became a pioneer for news safety at the BBC and later in his role as vice-president of CNN International.
