An Israeli actor, who will be forever remembered for his rendition of ‘If I Were a Rich Man’ in Fiddler on the Roof (1971). Topol was Oscar nominated and won a Golden Globe for his performance, having previously enjoyed success in the role in London’s West End, which was replicated many years later on Broadway. More a star of the stage, his film roles were limited but included the likes of Sallah (1964), Cast a Giant Shadow (1966), Before Winter Comes (1969), Flash Gordon (1980) and For Your Eyes Only (1981). For television, his appearances included The Winds of War (1983) and its sequel, War and Remembrance (1988-1989).
