An American actress whose defining roles in Hello, Dolly! and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes made her a Broadway legend, Channing became a fixture on variety shows such as What’s My Line? (1962-1966). On the big screen her credits included The First Travelling Saleslady (1956) and Skidoo (1968), and she was Oscar nominated for her role in Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967).
