Although he was a highly experienced deep sea diver, Spencer suffered an attack of the bends filming a documentary for National Geographic on the wreck of the Britannic, sister ship of Titanic, in the Aegean Sea. His work also appeared on the History and Discovery Channels, ITV and Channel 4.
