An American star of the silver screen, who earned an Oscar nomination for her performance in The Defiant Ones (1958). She was signed to 20th Century Fox at the age of 16, appearing in a few uncredited roles before landing more prominent supporting roles in the likes of Boomerang! (1947), The Saxon Charm (1948) and The Girl Next Door (1953). She also enjoyed success on US television, with Pete and Gladys (1960-1962), which saw her nominated for an Emmy, which led to her own titular sitcom, The Cara Williams Show (1964-1965).
