A British actor who was instrumental in bringing theatre to television when he convinced the BBC to air a performance of Reluctant Heroes (1951), Rix went on to produce and star in more than 80 theatrical farces for television. He retired from acting in 1977 and later became a leading charity campaigner and President of Mencap.
