An American child actor who retired from acting aged 16, Chapin was best known for his role as the 12-year old Jack Harper who stands up to Robert Mitchum’s psychotic preacher in The Night of the Hunter (1955). His other credits included The Kid From Left Field (1953) and A Man Called Peter (1955).
