Beth Porter

An American-born actor, who forged a career both in front of and behind the camera in the UK. Beth Porter joined New York experimental theatre club La MaMa in 1966 and co-founded its European arm the following year. She featured in the films The Naked Witch (1967) and Me and My Brother (1968), before landing roles in such British television series as Full House, Thirty Minute Theatre and Armchair Theatre (all 1973). Further television roles included Rock Follies of 77 (1977), The Deep Concern (1979), The Hitch-Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (1981) and Square Deal (1988). Additional film credits included The Great Gatsby (1974), Love and Death (1975) and Yentl (1983). She moved into script editing in the 1980s, training at the BBC and script-editing drama series Fighting Back (1986), and produced two short plays for television, The Husband, the Wife and the Stranger (1986) and Unusual Ground Floor Conversion (1989). She also worked as the London editor of Film Journal International.
