Ben Barenholtz

A Polish exhibitor, distributor and producer who did pioneering work at New York’s Elgin Theater, Barenholtz distributed films through the cinema and launched the midnight-movie phenomenon with screenings of El Topo (1970) and Pink Flamingos (1972). He helped nurture careers by distributing Eraserhead (1977) and Blood Simple (1985) and producing films including Requiem for a Dream (2000).
